Trendwatching: Scarves & Stoles

This is a mini-trend currently that I can see blowing up soon. I’m absolutely in love with it. Unlike last trendwatch of Bears, this is a style for all types of gals! Warning it’s super pic heavy this time, but with lots of fun ways to style gal hair. So let’s try it

Scarf Headbows

Currently the biggest scarf trend is the scarf headbow. A lot of different magazine models are wearing them :sparkle2:

Check the buzz from the magazines

But headbows are just the tip of the scarf trend iceberg, albeit a gorgeous tip. Let’s look at some other styles in magazines:

So far Nuts is the only one to showcase the scarf headbow, but it’ll come. Also check out the scarf headbands by headstar. These are all from April Nuts in their accessory &  boom sections.

Jelly is working a more celeb style play with scaves. Using smaller scarves tied to a bag. :sparkle2:

Scarves and hairties are starting to get into the gal stores

Let’s do the scarf trend!

One of the things I love about this trend is: IT’S CHEAP! and… IT”S EASY TO GET ONE I know many of us are on a tight budget and some just think that changing into gal is so expensive. But this is definitely one trend that’s super cheap!

I went to a thrift store today and got 3 scarves for $6.00! :!: That’s 3 more clothing accessories and options for your spring gal wardrobe. :sparkle2: So if you don’t already have a silk or chiffon scarf, and you’d like to try the trend there’s nothing stopping you :upheart:

A peach one, one mimicing all the gal florals amd one that reminded me of Emoda

Now there’s tons of ways to wear scarves depending on the length…

Let’s use smaller scarves

For smaller sized 32in x 32in ones you can wear them 3 different ways:

Earlier I posted on my tumblr about nabbing a vintage Chanel scarf from eBay.

Yay! Look~ The Eiffel tower :korila:

And I put it to use using a bit of a Popteen wave. Just straight ironing waves in and doing a half ponytail. I just let the scarf do it’s thing :note: :note:

Silly angle, but the same scarf can be worn like a headband, like those in Nuts

You don’t have to just wear it on your head or neck. My boom lately is wearing a ton of bracelets, so I added the scarf to my Louis Vuitton and Gilfy bracelets. :sparkle2:

You can do the same headband trick with cotton bandannas. Just make sure there’s lots of print in the center (unlike mine). -_-

Let’s do the big headbow

Okay to do the scarf headbow like Ena and Detsu did, you need a REALLY LONG SCARF! See how long it is, and I’m 5′7″ (170cm). :!:

I found this one at Zara for $35.00, love the bold floral pattern

Ta-da! You simply roll it, wrap it around your head, tie a bow, tuck the tails in, and fluff the bow.

So do you love the scarf trend? Will you be trying some of the looks? How many already have scarves in their closet? :korila:

If you need even more scarf love:

marineeque blogged about how much scarves are her boom, too! Tons of cute pics, go see!
Also, if you’re wanting to do Romihi’s bun and scarf, there’s no better or cuter tutorial than SuperKawaiiMama,  Violet, and Cheesie’s video collab

I guess I should raid my Grandma’s closet and see if she has any hideous scarves left over from her youth XD haha Seriously, I don’t know what to do this spring!

    • Mitsu says:

Yay I’m happy you like them  OMG more reason to love Jelly, although I fail at the hippie look. Maybe only for vacay time, yanno

  10. Jillian says:

Love the scarf trend! I need to go out and get myself some scarves now. Cannot wait to start rocking the scarf hairbow at school.

  11. Estela says:

I like the scarf trend in a “popteen western style” and I love Romihi´s too but maybe the scarf is too big, I´d prefer something smaller like your vintage Chanel :) and I love the Spiral Girl item :D

  12. sarah marie says:

  14. Chrissy says:

I like the scarf trend a lot!
    I´ve got a lot of scarves and you gave me a great idea how to use them :D The scarf headbow is my favorite but sadly I haven´t got a scarf yet which is long enough to do it ;__;

    • Mitsu says:

Maybe tying a short to a headband could fake it? I’ve been thinking about trying that with a bandanna since I think a bandanna headbow would be cute with the Western trend. :upheart:

  15. Bianca says:

OMG the third picture down made my heart skip a beat! ME LOVES SCARVES ME LOVE, i have a crap load too from my hipster days…haha

    • Mitsu says:

  19. bloomzy says:

I was wearing a scarf bow with my bun today :D
I love the whole scarf trend, but then I’ve always been a little obsessed with scarves haha

    • Mitsu says:

Awwwh you better show pics! I’m jealous of the scarf bun  I’ve got a few old ones myself, they’re fun to play with no matter the current trends :note:

      • bloomzy says:

I shall do…although I felt like my bun was dwarfed by the scarf.
I have really thin hair and it usually looks good without a scarf/scrunchie but when I include one of those I lose the volume :(

I keep looking at Chanel scarfs on ebay but they usually go for a lot.
I need to keep a sharp eye out haha.

  20. Lanna says:

I was wondering recently how to re incorporate my long forgot vw scarfs into my outfits,so the scarf trend is a hugh help, thanks.

Love your vintage Chanel scarf:O!! and you’re so cute with the popteen wave:)

    • Mitsu says:

  21. Cecilia says:

Yay I don’t feel like such a dork now. Because I’ve been rocking this look since last year.

  22. Milktan says:

Haha! That trend is so cute! :korila:

It’ll take some of the pressure off making my own hairbows with my hair! It takes so long and my shoulders end up cramping from having my arms up for so long. :^_^;;:

It’d look great with high buns!

I also still think that scarf bows around the neck are a really dappy thing so, I want to do that too! HAHA

    • Mitsu says:

I like neckbows too, and neck ribbons
Oh dear at least you can do the hairbow, it looks so daunting :^_^;;: I’m impressed :hearts3:

  23. Violet says:

Love scarves! I have been itching to try the scarf bow for a while, I just need to find one long enough. Loving your tutorials ^_^ And thank you so much for linking me again!!

  25. rene says:

Yipeee!! It’s so easy! I can remove the ‘lemming’ image of the hairbow now! Now I’m wondering where toget some scarfss. Thanks for this post!!

I love vintage & Chanel. Vintage Chanel scarf!! Best of both worlds!!!

    • Mitsu says:

Me, too! I’m lately fawning over too many vintage Chanel pieces and not enough money lol story of my life

Happy to help your addiction

  26. Anna says:

Mitsu-chan? That’s an OT question, but I – an absolute make-up addict – will be in Fukuoka for 10 days from Mar 22nd on and since there’s no Sasa in Japan I wanted to ask you if there are any Sephora-like stores that unite several Japanese brands? A chain company or such.

  27. Caroline says:

You did such a good job on the scarf! I will definitely try it out, thank you so much :)

  28. Rebecca says:

I LOOOVE this new trend! I really need to get some scarfs now! Hahaha!
By the way, you’re really rocking those scarfs! They look great on you!

  29. [...] Finally, a reason to whip out my epic collection of grandma chic.  I have fifty scarves in my house, most of which are silk & scarf-bow-able.  I have to force myself to skip sticking one in my hair, they’re so cute and addictive!  Also, I blame Miss Mitsu for bringing on this obsession!  She made an informative (and enabling!!!!) post here.
