Picture Day – Nekobukuro

There’s some irony to this post since I just got called a cat lady, which amuses me. I am such a cat lady, I do love my cat to pieces. She’s amazing!

I thought of bringing in a picture day each week or every so often, mostly of Japan travels. Although most of the time I was in Japan I hated holding a camera. Being a resident, it just irked me to be thought of as some just-off-the-plane tourist. So I was always hesitant to be the shutterbug I really am. :cheery:

Before there were several cat cafes, Nekobukuro in the Ikebukuro Tokyu Hands (website) [map] was the place that cat loving people went to get their feline fix. Not seeing my cat for months at a time, this was a nice reprieve. :hearts3: On the website there’s also links to other cat cafes that have popped up so you can get your fix anywhere in Japan. :sparkle2:

The 8th floor sign for Nekobukuro

This one looks like a Hitler cat!

So gorgeous!

Couples on dates and photo hogs :sparkle2:

About as much action as you’ll get from a cat

I love cats getting comfy.

The price is around 800 yen, but cheaper if you go as a couple. I went first with my friend who’s a girl in 2007 and we still got the couple discount :sparkle2:

The camera thing doesn’t bother me because I see so many Japanese people taking pictures of…well, everything. I don’t get mistaken for a tourist usually unless I’m going to old Japan touristy spots, unlike in Hawaii where being white guarantees you’ll be mistaken for one most of the time. :)

I’ve been to a cat cafe in Osaka, and was very happy when I found one in Kobe the other weekend though I haven’t been yet. I need to save up and get my own. -_-

I was oddly okay with being a shutterbug everywhere but Tokyo. I am always amazed by the no picture rule so many places have in Japan, especially Tokyo  It seems a bit ironic since when I was in Las Vegas one visit a couple was videotapping their food. Like not even at a nice place. LOL

Yeah I’m pathetic. I’m always telling my man to take pics of the animals while I’m in Japan. Even though they do the same things all the time :o

I don’t care about looking like a tourist, I understand what you mean tho. I just figure, they are going to assume I am a tourist by my skin color anyway. …well I am, but I come here so often I feel like something between a resident and tourist.

Have you been to any other cat cafes, would you recommend this one most? I plan to visit on during this trip. I love how cute those kitties are, and cats have such sassy attitudes hehe

    • Mitsu says:

I haven’t been to others, but I really want to go. I keep putting it off to go shopping or do something else silly.

I got sick of the assumptions. After being there almost 3 years it’s just like ohhh come on. Not all whiteys are tourists.
