Discussing two polar opposite gal brands, in so many ways, today. JSG & Murua’s fall selections. I decided to post these two to show the broad spectrum of what gal can be.
JSG
JSG details:
katakana: ジェイエスジー
style: hade, trend
website: http://jsg.bz/index2.html
number of stores: 5
years around: Fall 2006 (walked the TGC A/W 2006)
this season’s concept: “Bubble Pop Electric” simple items mixed to have impact
what it’s really this season: Monotone military trends with a hint of BritPOP look.
model: Ranzuki’s Nicorun
JSG – aka Japan Super Girl – the brand Kaoru Watanabe helped produce. The brand that was known for being so hade (aka flashy), that it was made for Egg magazine covers.

The two headline looks for this season. Styled their remind of late JSG.
JSG’s attempt at a hade mannish look. A bit oraora

The leopard knit reminds me most of old JSG. Could be a successful piece this season.
(all 3 above can be clicked to enlarge)

The bright knit poncho does a nice job at being trending yet still hade enough for JSG
This girly camo is quite cute, but no nekomimi? Sad to not see the JSG trademark here.
The Onepiece collab is quite cute and should sell well with JSG’s usual teen clientele.
JSG has a typical highschool clientele so a Ranzuki model and manga/anime tie-ins work well.
The collection has moments of cute and hade-JSG style for me, but BladeRunner make-up and crimped hair DO NOT make a collection. Too much style not enough fashion for me
This is how JSG looked when they walked for TGC 2006. THAT is hade.
I don’t want to say this, but when Kaoru left she look all the joy out of JSG and into Galaxxxy design collective where she works now. :worry:
Murua
Murua details:
katakana: ムルーア
style: mode gyaru
website: http://murua.co.jp/
number of stores: 15
years around: Fall 2009
model: Kiko & others

all pics below found here
Words cannot express how much I love these catalog shots. :superhappy: They make the clothes look expensive, which is a fabulous. This is Murua’s take on glamour and luxury. Brocades, leathers, furs, adult prints, shine. Reminds me of Old Hollywood glamour, which I just love
I can see myself trying to collect these pieces, not just buy them… yanno
I absolutely love their two leather jackets.
The left one really is so classy. Since I already have a leopard coat, this might be a save up special buy for me (that is if it fits my stubborn arms). It’s pricey, but to think it might just be one coat buy this season, it might be worth it. So lush :waves:
Opinions?
One brand struggling to find its past glory and another one that is popular with gals & non gals. To me Murua and brands like it are the future of gal, they allow for crossover, but gal magazines still happily them. On the other side PopSister showing how to mix pricier Harajuku brands with gal still work in keeping gal brands relavent. :bowhouse:

This is such an interesting look seeing as they are two brands one wouldnt think to compare!
I have to say, I am a JSG fan purely because I have days where I like having a bit of colour and crazy; hence why I am also a Co&Lu fan! I really liked the red leopard print knit, especially with the studded belt they’ve put it with…I could see me wearing that in winter but other than that I’m disappointed a little bit…
I LOVE the Murua photos though! This is more a look I would go for if I was going out, or wanted to be a bit more grown-up ^^ I absolutely love the monster fur thats going on as well as the red/orange one shoulder dress (do want!) and the green dress with the…is it a chain type print? on it…I also love the fur-trimmed gloves with that dress!!
I think I’d be more likely to buy from Murua if I wanted an on-trend outfit for going out but for my casual days I’ll still stick to my JSG and Co&Lu!!!
hehehehe I like your manic ideas of dressing, this is often how I feel. Somedays I want to be all sleek and cool and other days a bit crazy :sunny:
I love JSG styles, it’s a shame not to see the kitty ears!!
That Union Jack jumper is love, they look to be channelling Super Lovers a bit IMO!
and lov the new Doll layout
My phone welcomes mobile doll
Thank you lady! I shall work hard to fix a mobile layout soonish
hahaha Glad News in 2008 did a Union Jack jumper although there’s is a bit metallic, cus they’re awesome
MURUA’S CATALOG IS PURE LOVE ♥___♥
i cannot even put into words how i love those photos, so elegant and glamorous ~
usually i’d fell into CO&LU clothing and cute LIZ LISA photos but Murua is wayyyyyyy cooler , i rly like that brow-haired model cuz she LOOKS like a model (tall XDD)
and those leather jackets are rly cool, especially the right one makes me wanna scream “i waaant thaaaat soo baaad”
layout is cute 2 ♥
I agree, it’s nice to see a catalog look like a catalog. So flashy and pricey looking, and yes modely type girls. Very pretty
I must say im a totally Emoda and Murua junkie and this fall catalog of Murua is great! Im loving the long boots and the bandage skirts
I do though still think JSG has some nice items since i do like some colour too like the pink hoodie but it’s true that Galaxxxy is more interesting due to Kaoru’s help
I am loving them a lot, too. For some reason I think Mode Gyaru really suits f/w. Maybe it’s the idea of being covered up yet sexy
OMG OMG OMG. That One Piece sweater, I need to own. One Piece is my all time favourite thing, so basically I need to buy that! I like JSG A/W, it’s very nice! I can see myself wanting to buy some of it.
But Murua is just amazing. The catalog shots are so gorgeous! I want the fur coat, but I think I’d get beaten up if I wore it to my school  I love everything from Murua though, and I want to fill my closet with it.
hahahaa I wonder if other brands will do more One Piece collections since it’s quite popular
Murua is definitely going somewhere in my closet this Fall. It will happen LOL :thumb:
my vote goes for jsg this time i think.
i like the grown up styles too, and that murua catalogue is gorgeous but everything in there looks exactly like any piece i can pick up from any high street shop at any time. looks too much like western clothing to me :/ i got into gal to try something different and, frankly, if any of murua models walked into a london club or higher-end shop in those outfit they’d blend right in and possibly look boring. and if you tried to style a caucasian girl like that (makeup and hair inclusive) you’d never guess she was attempting gal at all.
I think it’s just depending on how a girl styles it. i think one of the cool things about Mode Gyaru is how it may fit into Western clothing, but when people wear it… even gaijin with the right styling it’s gal. Maybe I like it because it’s difficult? As in we as Western girls face a harder time trying to seem Mode Gyaru than say in other gal styles. Food for thought anyways
As I am getting Older, I feel like Mura would be a good transition line for me. However, my love for JSG will still require me to buy jackets every now and then *w* very nice
hehehe I agree. I feel pulled between being a little more playful but also wanting to dress sleek and with a bit of sophistication. It’s a bit of a tug-of-war
I just looove the union jack sweater in the first JSG picture you posted, the rest of it is kinda “ehh” for me.
LOVE the old Hollywood look, I wanna glam it up this fall/winter for sure.
I felt that was a strong piece, too. I dunno it’s just not the same for me :worries:
Love the new layout! And I think I like both JSG and Mura. The only thing is that they appeal to different sides of me – JSG appeals to the fun, casual side while Mura appeals to my sexy, classy side. Completely different feelings…
Thank you
I agree. It’s interesting how fashion can appeal to different feelings depending on how it’s styled
I don’t know why, but the models’ styling for MURUA reminds me SO MUCH of Amuro Namie, haha!
MUCH LOVE.
) The Union Jack knit, haadi mannish jacket(onesie?), & the leopard knit are just great great, would definitely rock those :hearts:
I actually love some of the JSG pieces since they’re fitting into my preferred choice of style for fall (& I’m a sucker for the super-80′s styling, haha
Out of MURUA, I do love everything as well but the white outfit, graphic print skirt, leopard coat, & that last casual sexy look are :hands: Really sexy!
Loved this post, Mitsu~ thanks for keeping us updated on the coming a/w trends
i don’t really care for jsg lately! the murua is awesome though–angelababy looks soooo fab in all the shots love love loveeee!!
i loooove murua and their style! i’ve fallen so in love with mode gyaru after you introduced it
i want to know how they do that black smokey eye and not look so overdone! momoko always pulls it off so nicely ><
Is it wrong that I really like both collections
Haha! I’ve love that JSG union jack sweater ever since I saw it on Nicola’s website hehehe, its not in the store yet luckily for my wallet. But I also really love the military dress thing.Luckily fitted items don’t fit me so I can just enjoy them on others haha. I’m thinking of getting a jumpsuit in the US (from Fleet Farm XD) and adding some junk to it to make it cool like JSGs.
“when Kaoru left she look all the joy out of JSG and into Galaxxxy design” :thumb: Ah that makes sense, Galaxxxy is so amazing.
The Murua items are great too, they are perfect for work wear, meeting people or looking more mature and elegant. I love the first look, but its a bit impractical for real life (or chubby girls like me) so that gold sweater is the winner for me.
That red dress though, it might just be the angle, but if it makes the model look pregnant what will it do to me? haha :heartshake:
wow!
i love that oraora jsg jacket and the union jack knit, they’re so cute and punky and bold. the poncho and sarrouel ensemblse look a bit weird to me though, and the hoodies are kind of boring.
and you are right, galaxxxy has much more pop now thanks to kaoru. i miss the old JSG – neon brights and nekomimi
murua is sexy too! a little bit too mature personally (it looks like topshop…) but i think it’s great for older 20- and 30- something gals who want to look gal but also stylish in a general way.
I love this stuff!
I definently saw some pieces I’d do just about anything to get my hands on…
My favs are the Mannish jacket from JSG, and the one shoulder melon colored dress with the white lace tights. I’m hoping to configure the style elements into accessories so they are interchangeable for me.
whenever I look at JSG now it seems like it has lost it touch. I mean, we can’t forget the boom it had in 2007 and its last spark in 2008. back then the outfits were really haady, maybe because Kaouru was always around or because egg was full of JSG awesomeness in every page. ahh, I miss the days
MURUA looks great. I somewhat like mature gal clothing aka mode more better. maybe because it sometimes looks high-class, classical or just good ^^
Wah cool new design
& Murua’s catalog is fabulous! But ah well she herself is totally fab too :D
Sadly sadly but in my opinion JSG has really lost of it’s greatness in the last years!
Murua can do no wrong this season, I am serious.
I absolutely adore all of the pieces. It’s gonna be so hard living on a budget haha
I especially want the green & white print dress. It’s bordering on old lady scarf print (as my friend would put it) but I love it
I actually like a few of the JSG pieces as well, which surprises me. I was never a massive fan and even though the hair and make is unflattering I quite like some of the cardigan/jumper pieces.
Thanks for this, I love it when you do the season collections.
i used to be in awe of JSG when Kaoru was still modeling for it.. i loved Egg a lot back then too.. i still love looking at their stuff, although i love their old stuff a lot more.. i really like that Oraora jacket though
im not sure of the bright knit poncho (although maybe it’s because i dont really like ponchos in general) and the girly camo looks boring without the nekomimi ..looks more like a regular hoodie to me..
i really love that you introduced styles like the Murua brand, very high-class and trendy.. im still transitioning and though i still have an awe of bright colors like JSG, im glad that there is this style as well.. still trying to figure out how to get all these essential pieces into my wardrobe!! hehehe
i love that first, 2nd, 8th (nice touch with the fur and glooves) and 9th coordinate. i totally need a leopard coat!!
I love both collections! I wish I could buy clothes from those brands (T__T)
http://becksmakeupcorner.blogspot.com/2010/07/my-first-giveaway.html
I love Murua’s skirts, especially the white one with black details. I also think I’m going to treat myself to a leather jacket since I don’t have one…soo tempting!
ps: I never knew about gal until I randomly found your blog this year! I’m finding things that will work with my wardrobe while being fresh. thanks for all the tips!!!
I kind of like JSG’s collection. Really want that black jackt and Union Jack Sweater!
:happydance JSG for the win! They are so colorful! Just like Cocolulu! :
I’m really looking forward to Murua’s A/W line, I’ve seen great things so far. Do you know if Murua usually offers a lot of things in stores that aren’t on the online shop? I’ve seen pictures on Poupee of some fabulous A/W items that people have bought from that brand, but they haven’t been on the website at all.
Nice contrasting post.
But don’t feel bad about saying it. Hell, I’ll say it again for you,”When Kaoru left she look all the joy out of JSG and into Galaxxxy design collective where she works now.”
^_~
Waaaaah, I love MURUA, the clothes are so cool! Too bad I live outside Japan..
also love the clothes bcoz of the chinese model Angelababy
Is the Murua model featured Angelababy?
I think it’s quite a few girls but Angelababy seems to be one of them.
The leopard print of JSG reminds me of Vivienne west wood, a lot a lot! and mumura is so divine and classy. Its great to see the vast world of gal from mode to amekanji. I’m glad that mode is becoming its own genre versus an “look to try” like wearing an ethnic dress is fun for all gal, but mode is becoming more of its own thang
Hi I also like Murua ~~ Could any one please tell me how to buy clothes from this brand in Hong Kong? Any online shops and international shipping?? Many thanks!!!
