Shibuya 109 stores IDOBA – JSG and Pinza

More 109 gyaru brands I don’t often blog about. I have occasionally blogged about JSG (here and here) and mentioned Pinza when talking about new Fall brands.

JSG

JSG details:
katakana: ジェイエスジー
style: hade, trend
website: http://jsg.bz/index2.html
number of stores: 5
floor in 109: 4th floor
years around: Fall 2006 (walked the TGC A/W 2006)
random trivia: JSG stands for Japan Super Girl

I feel a bit guilty when I don’t discuss JSG often. It’s still a wonderful niche of gal and has several stores. The issue is it only appeals to a specific niche of gals and Kaoru Watanabe not repping it as she used to has made the brand even more niched.

Sign showing their Winter looks.

JSG in Shibuya 109 is small but a definite noticeable presence on the 3rd floor.

Typical JSG style with a flashy multi-colored parka paired with a fluffy skirt.

JSG for Spring

JSG does not have an official JSG blog, but there’s a very diligent shop staff named Higaki Rina (桧垣梨奈) who updates new styles coming into the Shibuya store.  :hearts3:

Here she is with this Spring's new tsunagi/onesie. Denim trend in full effect.

In JSG's denim stadium jacket. Combining two trends: denim and stadium.

Edgy brands are hunting for anyway they can add trending studs to their looks. Trend worthy button up shirts are no exception.

Modeling with another shop staff their new Mickey parka and fun dot tulle skirt.

Close-up of the dot skirt. JSG takes dots away from retro and closer to fairy-kei fun.

Pinza

Pinza details:
katakana: ピンザ
website: http://www.pinza.co.jp/
webstore: http://store.pinza.co.jp/
blog: http://ameblo.jp/pinzachan
years around: 1 (2011 Fall)
floor in 109: 6th floor
style: lifestyle brand featuring adult-cute clothing

I blogged about this store before it opened for Fall and while I don’t really have any more information on it, I thought I’d share the look and style of clothes within the store.

Pinza's cute store is located where One*Spo used to be and appropriately next to Ank Rouge.

Several women were gathered around the store as the Pinza silly rabbit pokes out.

Shibuya 109 brands IDOBA is a series where I highlight brands that don’t get as much recognition on this blog. Previously Dance by LB-03 and Dilga were highlighted.

I love JSG, such fun, vibrant looks. That polka dot skirt is particularly cute. That denim jumpsuit is so early 2000, haha. :worries:

I was so sad when the JSG in Shinsaibashi OPA closed ;_; I bought some fun stuff in there for my sister one time. A nearby store carries galaxxxy, which is close in style but more expensive.

Yeah! Kaoru left JSG for Galaxxxy :(

I am a bit shocked by the OPA closing. I always think of Osaka girls as more flashy so suitable for JSG style.

YES! 2007 memories! Although I do hope they update a bit more.

I love that JSG printed Shakespeare on their shirt.
it’s so sad, JSG was the breaking point for gaijan gals. i didnt know anyone that went to 109 and shopped, say , back in 2006. when i went in 2007 and posted a shirt i bought from D.I.A- a very “popular” Ganguro girl said that it wasnt really GAL.LOL. but when JSG came out, with the nekomimi hoody, everyone jumped on it, and that was like the gateway to GAL. now everyone has dropped them (including myself)

I absolutely agree. I was in Japan during the Kaoru image model JSG times where it was very popular and now it’s really been marginalized. It’s a shame because I still like seeing it, although it’s obvious gal has moved away from it. Although with a fair amount of stores I guess it’s still doing okay-ish?

I love brands like JSG because they stand out! I was really surprised at the denim jumpsuit – it would usually be something I’d run a mile from, but I think it’s really, really cute! I’m only 157cm though so I’ve a feeling it would make me look even shorter haha. I don’t pay great attention to Gal fashion (I dance a lot so my main wear is tracksuit bottoms, trainers and trucker hats lol) so I’m surprised to hear that Gal is moving away from it, but it definitely wouldn’t stop me from wearing their things :korila:

Geeez girl! You always have the latest info. I LUV IT. Great looks btw. JSG is totally awesome. I doubt I could actually pull a brand like that off without looking like a straight up crazy person but you can’t help but love all the colors and overall cheer all their clothes have. Like they literally make you feel good! lol :butterfly: :hearts: :hearts3: :stars:

i had not idea about the history of kaoru leaving jsg for galaxxy, interesting! i just thought she modeled for both at the same time.. jsg is what drew me into gal back in 07, i almost bought a jsg hello kitty collab hoodie that time .. its interesting to see what they have up now, although im not drawn to the bright colors & flashiness as i used to.. i am loving the denim items though! :) thanks for sharing, ive been reading your archives trying to get myself psyched up for shopping in japan this summer, your guides are helpful :yayyay: hopefully i can fight the urge to online shop before then..

JSG is the 1st brand I discovered when I was shopping at 109, the bright colors brought me into their store. At the time they also had a collab with Hello Kitty. My only piece of 109 clothing is from JSH  Totally love it! I LOVE all the parkas they have on right now with all the colors, it’s just so happy and vibrant! Mind you, I don’t think I would ever wear such skirts :worry:

  13. February 2, 2012 / 7:07 am

I loooove JSG :hearts: I’m so sad the shop in Osaka closed down last year :worry: My friend and I still haven’t found anything to replace the craziness they offered. I’ve been checking out CO&LU more and more though

  14. February 2, 2012 / 7:06 pm

JSG is one of my favorite Shibuya brands! reminds me of my emo/hipster days… i wouldn’t wear the whole thing as a look but a couple of pieces here and there…

i am SO not digging the jeans for spring though.. when i think JSG, i think super bright colors and fluffiness! what were they thinking?!

  15. February 2, 2012 / 7:41 pm

Great post again! I’m happy I have the opportunity to see how the Japanese shopping mall stores look like! ♥

I’ve always loved JSG parkas! The jeans for spring surprised me for being so toned down. :O

I will love JSG forever! Give me those cute colors! It’s great to pair with a casual monotone item for a cute yet not OTT look.

    I love JSG!
