High Brand to Gyaru Brand – Dolce and Gabbana Beige Lace Trend to Gyaru Style

I’ve always been fascinated by what gyaru brands take from high fashion brands and use to inspire their own designs. Today I’m going even more meta. I’m just taking one high fashion item and showing how it’s spawned a lot of cool designs by gyaru and onee brands.

Two weeks ago when I was asking for what people would like to see on the Doll Robin messaged me and said she wanted me to go super detailed, just a post on one singular thing. Her suggestion was cocktail rings or accessories (which I shall get to), but this post was also inspired by that. To go deeper into the anatomy of trends. (We must go deeper #gyaruception).

All it took was one bag by Dolce and Gabbana the Dolce Lace Satchel (Sold at Saks for $2195.00USD).

Now while I think the bag is cute, me and most readers cannot or do not want to throw down 2k on a summer trend bag, and that’s where gyaru (and other mid-range fashion) helps the proletariat (hey I have a polisci degree if I can’t throw around proletariat on my blog I have failed).

And they’re not copying, they’re inspired! That’s the rocking aspect about these gyaru pieces!

Jugeetta does a cool twist on a boston-style bag (here), Liz Lisa makes an adorable satchel complete with bows (here), Mercury Duo makes a slim-lady like bag (here) Duras casual girly cardigan jacket is perfection (here) and Rosessence shoes are a perfect bag pairing (here).

So what do you say? Yay or nay to beige lace? If Yay what’s your favorite? :dotbow:

While I think the Mercury Duo one looks a bit cheap (cos of the lace), the others are great. I do love lace, although I’m not likely to wear nude or beige shades. If the lace was over a bright turquoise, yellow or black, I’d buy it :) I find it fascinating too, how trends pass down from high fashion houses to mainstream labels and even budget brands.

    • Mitsu says:

Agreed I think the lace and the color of the leather don’t match. It’s the only bag that hasn’t sold out of the gyaru ones so maybe others feel the same? XD I think Duras cardigan had a turquoise pairing if I remember right XD

  2. Nilkki says:

I drooooooooooooool over that Liz Lisa bag!!! TT____TT

  3. I loveeee the beige lace! Its so girly but can be worn so many styles! <3 My fav however is certainly the Liz Lisa satchel bag, its so versatile! :D Spring is probably my favourite season for fashion <3

    • Mitsu says:

Satchel bags won’t stop being popular yet and I love them! It seems this season high fashion has finally realized that. Other than d&g a lot of other high brands out out satchels. :)

  4. Anhy says:

Love this trend! I want one of these cuties so badly but I doubt I’d be able to find it here in Ger. :(

  5. Laura says:

I like the Jugeetta and Liz Lisa ones 8)

  6. Dolly says:

I love love love beige and lace!! I think the Mercury Duo bag has to be my favorite because my eyes went directly to it and I like the simple design of it. I must say though, that Dolce & Gabbana bag is to die for. *_*

  7. ✿elle says:

Omgawsh! I LOVEEEE the trend!!!! The Dolce & Gabbana bag is beautiful~ ♡♡ but, I really like the Rienda and the Jugeetta ones too! Cuteness overload ( ´д` )

    • Mitsu says:

They both sold out so I think you’re in good company. It seems like such a nice trend that’s trendy yet could still pull out next summer :)

  8. I love it so much! wish i could just throw down 2k and buy it XDDD honestly!!!! I love the D&G bag so much lol but i do love the mercury duo one too!

    • Mitsu says:

I like it too although they did ones in full leather at the same price that wouldn’t make me cry to clean them. Lace on a 2k bag is so impractical. Hurray for cheaper practical options XD

  9. Absolutely yay! It’s a trend that can be rocket even in a mori inspired outfit *_* My favourites are Jugeetta’s bag and Rosessence’s shoes. I love wood!

  10. KC says:

i love the Jugeetta bag, but i’ve never heard of that brand! can you tell me where they have a shop? thanks!!

i’ve been seeing those lacy shoes in all the shops, too!!

    • Mitsu says:

I posted about them previously (search bar will Help currently replying via wordpress app on ipad so its a bit hard) and they’re in the omotesando plaza fancy building now they used to be on 2f of the Harajuku building but have since gone to their new home.

I was thinking about that a while ago when reading your gyaru trends post and now these thoughts came back. Are there any trends this season unique to the gal fashion only? Most of the trends you described earlier are being widely presented in non-gal fashion as trends for S/S 2013. I’ve seen almost all of them (except the flat brim caps which I personally doubt to be trending or should I say, don’t want to see them trending :-D ) in magazines, fashion blogs and sold in stores. If that’s the case and all gyaru trends match non-gyaru trends this season. it’s pretty cool since there are tones of styles to choose from without paying shopping service fees :)

I certainly agree that some bags were most likely inspired by this particular bag but cardi and shoes are a little far-fetched. I would think designers just followed the general lace trend rather than take inspiration from this bag.

Can’t wait to read more of gyaruception series :) Thanks for informative detailed posts, Mitsu!

Fashion doesn’t happen in a vacuum. That’s the easiest response I can say.

As for the shoes and jacket I was showing how the beige lace trend carried over. I am not aware of designers are thinking when they design although I do think its feasible they say beige lace somewhere else and got inspired.

But I always feel gyaru uses the trends and makes their own. If not once h&m and forever 21 opened in Shibuya 109 would close its doors. I just think trends evolve differently in gyaru and something may be more important in gyaru than overseas even if both are carried. The cat hat was runway inspired from last fall but nowhere near as insanely popular as in gyaru.

It’s like telling people to draw a cat. Since its a broad thing you’ll get several drawings of cats in several styles. XD

      • datura says:

I am very interested to see this evolution in action. It’s fascinating how given the same input results turn out to be so much different. Kinda like isomers :-D Still with so much overlapping probably would be easier to build a gyaru outfit with domestic resources which is great!

  13. Robin CF says:

I really like the way the beige lace items look, but I worry that they won’t pair well with my mostly Black wardrobe. I hope I’ll see plenty of coordinates with beige lace so I can learn more about how to style it. :D

    • Mitsu says:

Lol and when I see black buttons on a jacket I cry a bit. It’s so hard it feels like dressing pulls you to black or lighter colors not both D:

  14. annie says:

I love the original bag the most, it’s perfect… except for the price tag ha. The Duras cardigan is super cute, I want it!

  15. I love this trend so very much. So pretty :)

  16. Monique says:

OMG! I love Rienda’s bag! Yay for beige lace! *O*

  17. babycakes says:

The D&G bag is amazingly beautiful….then again idk who can afford that isn’t stinking rich lol
the Liz Lisa bag is sooo adorable… i’m sure more in my price range and still cutee XD
