The Doll was paused by kittens!

Any pause by cute kittens is good right? I went on a lovely summer vacation to Norway 3 weeks ago and when I got back to my place I found a mama and her kittens.

After some debate the mama and her surprising five kittens (we thought there were three) came to stay with us. The mama turned out to be feral so she was trap-neutered-released (tnr is a great program) and the five kittens learned to be kittens with me. Kittens in the wild born to a stray or feral mom are by default feral.

Strays used to be owned by someone and can become another person’s pet. Feral cats are wild and cannot. Feral kittens with some TLC can be awesome housecats.

The first week I spent trying to home some and making sure they all got out of their feralness. It’s really time consuming but so rewarding. There were 9 cats and a dog in my place, it was definitely crazy for a while. The kittens were seven weeks which is a key time to help them to become sweet housecats, (up to 8 weeks is best, 10 is hard but doable). Second week was more socialization with my animals (after their vet check) and more adopting.

Kitten One!

Named “Dark tabby” was independent and docile. Was the first to find a home.

Kitten Two!

Nicknamed “Light Tabs”. The cutest of the litter went to go live the life with my friend in the country.

Kitten Three!

Nicknamed: Runty. Tiniest of the group, but biggest eater. Loved to pad when petted, even on her back.

Kitten Four!

Nicknamed: Shy Girl. Softest belly, would fall asleep on me. It was super hard to see her go.

Just look at that derpy belly. Kittens lay the stupidest ways.

The two ladies together. I wanted to keep them both.

The two ladies and Olaf all in one kitten bed.

Kitten Five OLAF!

Kittens wander into our house. Usually they stay. Olaf has decided to stay.

This is Olaf. He likes warm hugs.

Catching him mid yawn made him look so derpy. Oh derp-laf

He also likes to climb around, burrow, bite (teething phase) and in general be a kitten. He’s very independent which with 3 other cats and a dog, was essential. House is doing fine, but I will miss all those kittens running around.

They grew from 2 lbs to 3 lbs! It was half their body weight, and became so big so quick! Such cuties.

I definitely want to foster for a shelter, hopefully next year. Shelters get so full up during the summer, it’s prime catting season and ONE non-spayed female cats can breed 60+ kittens a year!! Please spay and nueter your animals.

side note: For non-cat people I know holding them by the neck in some photos seems crazy, but it’s called scruffing. It mimics what their mama does and makes it safe for me to handle them also makes them feel okay with me especially when they were in a new room for photos.

So cute!! My father’s girlfriend recently found kittens in an alley near their house. When I visited them last weekend we went to feed them and tried to catch them so we could take them home and do as you do, “de-feral” them to then give them good homes. I was able to catch 2 of them but the other 3 were very shy/scared and wouldn’t come near me, but they did eat. They are too cute!! I will be going back this week to try and catch them again, hopefully we are more successful this time. (They hide in a bush behind a fence, so it’s hard getting to them!)
