I’ve stayed loyal to my Avarice nail salon in Harajuku (previous posts) for several years now for Japanese gel nail art. Their work continues to amaze me and no matter what I come with they’re up to the task. NOW they have an English speaking nail artist who did a working holiday in Australia. She’s lovely and loves to chat in english. So I super recommend Avarice even more to my readers! Just remember if booking on hotpeper to mention English.

1950s Cinderella Gel Nails

Disney’s Cinderella nails! I wanted these to be pretty simple but still have that great gel nail art. The art is based on the original 1950 animated feature. I’ve become a big Disney nerd and the classic styles of Disney are my favorite. Simple with a few details: Cinderella herself, her slipper and a hint of the pumpkin carriage.

Chanel Paris-Dallas collection Gel Nails

My nails had gotten so short! But that’s no problem for Avarice Harajuku superb gel nail art everytime! This time I wanted the theme of the Chanel Paris-Dallas collection. Being a Texan I’ve always wanted a Texas flag or shape on my nails. Even though I’m anti-gun I’ve oddly also wanted gun nails. The Coco Chanel portrait was based on the flyers they handed out for the Paris-Dallas collection.

Pretty close right?

The gun was a 90s part of a belt. I liked it better than the Paris-Dallas gun jewelry so in it went.

Mad Max: Fury Road Gel Nails

I GOT MAD MAX NAILS!!! Mad Max: Fury Road is my favorite movie of the last few years. I knew when I had the chance I would try to make Mad Max nails happen.

My nailist hadn’t watched the movie, so showing her photos she gave me the look that said: why do you want this on your nails? It’s totally unkawaii. Then I played her the Japanese trailer and that did not win her over either. And then I tried to explain the movie in Japanese, which was a complete failure. Trying to explain it in English just ends up with me yelling WAR GUITAR!! or FURIOSA!! and then slipping into happy fangirl goo.

Then she got to it… and asked if it’s okay if I make them more “manga” and they won’t look exactly like them. I was like my expectations are low, I just need to fangirl more.

BUT CHECK THEM OUT! OMG! War Boy! Furiosa! Mad Max!

Furiosa was like my Mona Lisa nail. No matter the light she’s always staring at me.

Mad Max and Furiosa! Avarice gel nail art wins all the awards.

My hands were super dry. I had just landed in Japan. My hands go horrible on the flight and stay bad in Japan. The air and public restroom soaps just kill my hands. Hand lotion is your friend in Japan. I actually discovered my favorite hand lotion for traveling is MUAC AHA Hand and Body lotion. I was given a sample and it just takes care of dry spots immediately because of its alpha hydroxy acids. It doesn’t provide the lovely scents of other hand lotions, but overnight total change in dryness!

I was able to finally experience famed Osaka Nail Salon “Crea” in Shinsaibashi in May. Since my trip started out in Osaka I was able to get a new set while I was there. Osaka Nail Salon Crea is one of the legendary salons in Japan that is known for its deco and parts. Crea actually makes its own Swarovski parts and sells them in nail supply stores throughout Japan. They don’t follow trends, they’ve been making them.

I’ve been following their blog for years and since they’re in one the biggest hostess quarters in Japan they do a lot of hostess and gyaru nails. They’ve also done deco for years from all crystal, to hime with lace and ribbon and now more of a Miu Miu style deco.

Crea nail salon info:

My Crea gel nails with Swarovski Parts

My finished nails from Crea! All the parts and stones! Done in a mint to match my hair at the time.

In the sunlight from the side. Much deco. Wow. I’m so impressed how they were able to give me a pure Swarovski deco nail with no edges. The top two nails are done using their signature Crea own nail parts.

Holding some zunda mochi from Sendai you can see how 3-d their big parts are.

But after a month they stayed on wonderfully. It took forever for Avarice to remove them but I was really happy with them.

Here’s a close-up of Crea’s original parts. I’m wearing the pink variation of the bottom one.

Crea Acrylic Nail Examples

Although Osaka Nail Salon Crea does a lot of short gel nails (like mine) they also do a ton of hostess nails. Check out these amazing examples of their work.

Sigh… their work inside their own style is so good. Love the possible Rady lover nails on the left.

Inside the Crea Shinsaibashi salon

The Crea staff kindly let me take pictures of their salon after I was done with my nails.

After you step off the elevator you enter right into Crea. Their salon takes up the whole floor. The front part of the salon is for their deco displays and work. Currently it’s more Miu Miu style deco.

The right is where I sat to get my nails done. It was super cosy and during the process not a back or neck twinge.

They also had a mini second floor with more nail areas. It felt like an old home.

A table set-up. The framed sets are completed examples (they also have photobooks like all nail salons), the multitude of clear boxes are all their stones and parts, the black comfy chair is where you sit and the rolly chair (peaking out from under the table) is where staff sits. The side cart is full of nail remove, clippers and other tools.

A close-up of what’s in their desks.

Their work area where they manage orders of their popular website.

Close-up of that awesome deco poodle and maneki neko laptop.

If you’re in Osaka and need stellar nails I definitely recommend them.

When I was back in Tokyo in November I was able to visit my beloved nail art salon “Nail Salon Avarice” (previous posts | tumblr ) in Harajuku and get some new nail designs. Their gel nail art designs are always top notch and I think Nail Salon Avarice outdid themselves on both sets.

All eyes on me. Literally. One of my funkiest sets. It’s actually Brigitte Bardot deconstructed and psychedelic prints. I kind of like how beautiful humans look funky and weird when deconstructed.

Here’s my original quick and shoddy sketch for my nail art designs I took to Avarice. Pretty awesome how they put it on nails, right?

Since I forgot to take pictures of my thumb art together here’s my thumbs doing everyday things.

Psychedelic print thumb number one holding a delicious chikuwa in Miyajima, Hiroshima.

Eyebrow, hair and eye thumb number two holding my Etude House Princess Etoinette Crystal Lips Lipstick.

My favorite nail art designs I’ve gotten done in a long time.

James Bond Villan Nail Art Designs

So inspiration strikes us in various ways. I was dead set on getting James Bond themed nails. I had never gotten movie nails before and I have watched all of the James Bond films more than twice so I was prepared to nerd on. But I had to simplify my nails and only get two really crafted out.

So I chose to be inspired by this James Bond fanart by Ben Jelfs (http://benjelfs.com/). No it’s not Dr. Evil and Mr. Bigglesworth. It’s Ernst Stravo Blofeld, the original Dr. Evil and his persian. Yup nerding up a storm.

Take a good look at that artwork because it’s amazingly redone on nails.

Freakin’ amazing right? She got all the tiny details done on the persian and the great head shading on Blofeld. Those are my nails a month in, still looking good though.

Close-up of the Persian cat nail art design. Ahh I love the cat x cat mix. Shown with a Paul and Joe Makeup Cat blush. Doesn’t the persian look appropriately sour? I love sour looking cats.

I had to cancel the day before and I ran into time constraints and could only do a simpler design the day I left on a plane. I was freaking out worried about missing my flight while getting my nails done. It was so stressful.

You know why Avarice is awesome??

I cancelled on them, I was unable to call and cancel. I was the bad and horrible one!! But you know what they did? I got a handwritten note from Kayo apologizing that she had her day off the next day and couldn’t work on me AND the discount price I earned with my hot pepper points they used. Seriously, Avarice is the best. I keep recommending it to people and more satisfied people leave. It’s such a wonderful place!

My girl Alanna also went to Avarice and got these awesome Galaxy-themed nails. Pretty cool, right?

These art my self done Gelish nails that I did before leaving for Japan. I get really nervous about going to a Japan Nail Salon without showing up in nice nails so I took a bit of time on these. Done with all soft-gel Gelish and parts from Shibuya Nail Store TAT (review and info on that soonish let me get my hair salon series done first). Since nautical is trending for Spring I’m going to use up my gold shell nail deco.

Universal-Doll facebook note: I’ve been working on the facebook page lately so that you know when there’s a new post on the Doll also I’ll be starting a weekly series called “Lost Photos of the Doll” photos I have taken in Japan but never made themselves into posts. Before I even headed to Japan I made sure to I schedule my appointment with Avarice Tokyo Nail Salon (previous post here) through Hot Pepper.

The theme for my nails was Me & My Basset Hound

I decided me to be interpreted as a Paper Doll. Apparently Paper Dolls are unheard of in Japan. The “butt” nail got lots of giggles and compliments  :lolpastel:

I wanted a vintage style me with a beret. I liked how they both turned out!

Holding the delicious Marie Antoinette limited edition Laduree macaron. So delicious (thanks Stella!).

My Basset Hound hand! I love the long idea it was actually inspired by my nailist Aya’s nails :sage:

Her corn hand!  :lolpastel:

avarice tokyo nail salon

This was her older set, when I went back a second time to Avarice she had done meat on this hand so she had corn and meat. Apparently they were her favorite foods

Me raving about Avarice has gotten my friends to go there. Bestie Alice “Alice and Wonderland” themed nails. The rabbit is so cute!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAavarice tokyo nail salon
And this is Aya Yoshida my nailist! Her instagram Excuse my shoddy camerawork it was my first time actually using my new camera to take a picture of someone. Thankfully I learned quickly! I had planned on doing a series on Este professional snaps, but the ones I went for on my first visit I liked so much I went back to all 3 of them. Really stopped the whole este snap idea…  :sweatbubble:

She’s a big fan of Alisa Ueno producer of Fig & Viper and quirky Hollywood movies like Bettlejuice and Addams Family.

Lately she’s been moonlighting in the Ally’s nail salon that’s just for famous people to get their nails done at. Murua’s producer Momoko Ogihara is one of her clients! :korila:
