I’ve stayed loyal to my Avarice nail salon in Harajuku (previous posts) for several years now for Japanese gel nail art. Their work continues to amaze me and no matter what I come with they’re up to the task. NOW they have an English speaking nail artist who did a working holiday in Australia. She’s lovely and loves to chat in english. So I super recommend Avarice even more to my readers! Just remember if booking on hotpeper to mention English.

1950s Cinderella Gel Nails

avarice-cinderella-nails

Disney’s Cinderella nails! I wanted these to be pretty simple but still have that great gel nail art. The art is based on the original 1950 animated feature. I’ve become a big Disney nerd and the classic styles of Disney are my favorite. Simple with a few details: Cinderella herself, her slipper and a hint of the pumpkin carriage.

Chanel Paris-Dallas collection Gel Nails

My nails had gotten so short! But that’s no problem for Avarice Harajuku superb gel nail art everytime! This time I wanted the theme of the Chanel Paris-Dallas collection. Being a Texan I’ve always wanted a Texas flag or shape on my nails. Even though I’m anti-gun I’ve oddly also wanted gun nails. The Coco Chanel portrait was based on the flyers they handed out for the Paris-Dallas collection.

Pretty close right?

The gun was a 90s part of a belt. I liked it better than the Paris-Dallas gun jewelry so in it went.

Mad Max: Fury Road Gel Nails

avarice-mad-max-fury-road-nails

I GOT MAD MAX NAILS!!! Mad Max: Fury Road is my favorite movie of the last few years. I knew when I had the chance I would try to make Mad Max nails happen.

My nailist hadn’t watched the movie, so showing her photos she gave me the look that said: why do you want this on your nails? It’s totally unkawaii. Then I played her the Japanese trailer and that did not win her over either. And then I tried to explain the movie in Japanese, which was a complete failure. Trying to explain it in English just ends up with me yelling WAR GUITAR!! or FURIOSA!! and then slipping into happy fangirl goo.

Then she got to it… and asked if it’s okay if I make them more “manga” and they won’t look exactly like them. I was like my expectations are low, I just need to fangirl more.

BUT CHECK THEM OUT! OMG! War Boy! Furiosa! Mad Max!

Furiosa was like my Mona Lisa nail. No matter the light she’s always staring at me.

Mad Max and Furiosa! Avarice gel nail art wins all the awards.

My hands were super dry. I had just landed in Japan. My hands go horrible on the flight and stay bad in Japan. The air and public restroom soaps just kill my hands. Hand lotion is your friend in Japan. I actually discovered my favorite hand lotion for traveling is MUAC AHA Hand and Body lotion. I was given a sample and it just takes care of dry spots immediately because of its alpha hydroxy acids. It doesn’t provide the lovely scents of other hand lotions, but overnight total change in dryness!

Dazzlin (ダズリン) is a brand I don’t often talk about. Since my brand introduction talk in 2011 Dazzlin has grown from 19 stores to 33 stores. They’re doing incredibly well in this seisomotekeiotonakawaiiretrogirly popular trend movement. Their price point is low but their styles seem to attract teens to adults. Their creative director Rumi Kon (近瑠美) is now 30, but still seems to embracing the girly youth style. Good on her. I think the ageism is slowly changing.

Okayama Ichibangai (岡山一番街) is the train station mall inside Okayama train station. Okayama is a big transit point on the shinkansen between Osaka and Hiroshima. It’s always filled with travelers. I’ve snapped staff inside Okayama Ichiban-gai previously and all around Okayama, but this girl may be my favorite.

My weakness for chubby cheeks. She’s sooooo cute! Dimples!

She’s in the big sweater onepiece that was a huge hit last Winter. So big a hit they’ve brought it back in plaid for this season.

Another cute pose. Her short hair is the best!

Holding my blog card so well I don’t have to watermark it (bonus).

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Her gel nails have gotten old but still look lovely. I love red nails partnered with nuetral tones.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Her make-up was simple but keeping in line with Dazzlin. Simple lashes, manicured thicker brows and a sweet blush.

Her earrings as well as her ring partnered well with the white in her sweater dress. Vintage earrings are a big trend in Japanese fashion. So many vintage shops (brand and not) are growing the market inside Japan.

I love short haired girls. I mark them if you’d like short hair inspiration. Check the tags.

Upcoming for Dazzlin style: Even though the chill is just starting to pick up in Tokyo, Dazzlin just finished its Spring/Summer 2015 exhibition. Their season is all about bright colors, knee length and midi skirts, jazzy prints on feminine dresses and set-ups. See photos here, here and here.

Secret Magic aka Secret Honey keeps bringing stylish adult cute looks every season. This shop staff from Tachikawa Lumine (Tachikawa is western Tokyo’s neighbor) had fabulous hair, nails and cute style that was so polished. I have no idea why I ended up in Tachikawa last summer but I did and well… at least I took pictures of shop staff.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Of course she’s in a fabulous Secret Magic dress and Bonita shoes. Check out those un-Secret Magic shoes on the right. Ladies clothing store dressing rooms often keep a set of high heeled mules next to the doorway so ladies who try out outfits can have a pair of easily slidable shoes to check themselves out in the mirror. Of course heels make your legs look good so it’s usually an oversized pair of high heeled mules.

Yellow as a neutral? I think it really works as the butter yellow on her gel nails.

I always try to get my bangs like that when they get longer but it never seems to work. Her hair is so stellar.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Love the quality details of Secret Magic. Their quality always seems quite stellar for the price.

Secret Magic now Secret Honey. Always classy style.

Jouetie Japan Runway for Spring Summer 2014

jouetie-ss2014-real-looksjouetie-runwayonly-ss2014-looks

Jouetie (ジュエティ) is a Runway Channel brand which hosts its runway shows in late October for the Spring collections titled “Rainbow Punk” (images from fashionsnap.jp). Although it’s purely a street style brand its runways tend to do “runway only” looks mixed with actual items that will be sold. I understand the flashiness for the runway need but it does cloud the true look of Jouetie the brand for Spring.

Jouetie Shop Spring Style and Spring 2014 Trends

jouetie-spring2014-trends-forecast

Lots of overlapping trends from LilLilly with Jouetie! I’m really waiting for their nautical prints to come out. Especially those vans-style shoes from the runway! I really like Jouetie’s takes on the trends for the season the more real clothing that comes out. My favorite is that eyelet set-up. Set-ups which have been popular for two seasons are still reigning on!

Jouetie Japan Shop Staff from Shinjuku Lumine EST in Spring

To get you ready for 2014 Spring let’s look back at 2013 Spring style with Jouetie shop staff pictures I took.

Not one but two Jouetie Japan girls to shoot? I’m a lucky girl!

Little girl men nails from Toy Story, so cute!

I don’t have a favorite look because I think they rep Jouetie both so well. Both also have stellar circle lens. What’s your favorite?
